This calculation is routinely used in monitoring hospital utilization in managed care. The Annual Clinic Census is the plan's active members. Designated AIDS Centers might consider using their ID Clinic Census to simulate their success in managing hospital use. The formula is a modified verison of the one presented in Kongstvedt's The Managed Care Health Care Handbook.
